ZuPreem Heritage

Three Generations of Caring for People and their Pets

The ZuPreem® heritage began with the love and care for one dog in 1939 and continues today with the same commitment to your pet. The Morris family’s promise to enhance the special relationship between you and your pet through healthy, wholesome nutrition is as true today as it was 60 years ago.

Raritan Animal Hospital, in 1928
Mark L. Morris, Sr., DVM, founded the Raritan Animal Hospital, the second small animal hospital in the United States. He believed that certain diseases in pets could be managed through carefully formulated nutrition, and he tested this belief by formulating a special diet for Buddy, a guide dog in kidney failure. The diet gave Buddy a longer life and her blind owner a longer relationship with his trusted companion. This diet launched Hill’s Pet Products in 1948 and started a family legacy that has continued for 60 years through three generations.

Mark L. Morris, Jr., DVM, a world leader in animal nutrition

Continuing his father’s work, Mark L. Morris, Jr., DVM, developed many more Prescription Diet® foods for sick dogs and cats, as well as turning his passion for helping pets lead healthier, longer lives into developing Science Diet® foods for healthy dogs and cats.

Enhancing the relationship between people and pets through better nutrition

The promise Dr. Mark L. Morris, Jr. made and kept is observed today with millions of healthy pets living longer and healthier because of better nutrition. This commitment forever changed how we feed our pets and has led to more satisfying companionships, enjoyed by people and their pets every day.

ZuPreem® exotic feline diet was among the first zoo diets introduced in 1964

ZuPreem diets, also developed by Dr. Mark L. Morris, Jr., provided expert nutrition for animals in zoos, including diets for exotic cats, reptiles, primates, and bears. Many of the original formulations are still being fed in zoos today. In 1993, ZuPreem passed to the family’s third generation, David R. Morris, son of Dr. Mark L. Morris, Jr. Today along with his wife Darlia Morris, DVM, the family’s commitment to continuing the family legacy endures.

Celebrating all animals and our unique relationships with them

ZuPreem remains focused today on providing nutrition to exotic animals, whether in zoo exhibits or beloved pets in homes. The same passion for all animals in our world community, the same exacting attention to high-quality nutrition– all with the intent to strengthen and lengthen the lives of animals everywhere.

A commitment to nurture strong, positive interactions between pets and people
Through vision and innovation, the company expanded the original ZuPreem products to include premium, life-stage avian diets for breeders and pet owners. The Morris family’s commitment to quality shows up in every ZuPreem product and is why ZuPreem has become the brand pet owners have come to trust.

Making a difference in the health of ferrets
The Morris family heritage involves a promise to research and formulate diets that meet the exact nutrition needs of special pets. Nutritionists at ZuPreem understand a ferret’s nutrition needs, and they understand the needs of pet owners. This is why Premium Ferret Diet is formulated with no fish meal for less odor in the litter box all to help bring people and their pets closer together.

Changing the way small animals are fed

The newest group of ZuPreem products is leading the way to more naturally
healthy, wholesome foods for small pets, such as rabbits, guinea pigs and
chinchillas. Inspired by the increasing desire among pet owners for more
natural foods, Nature’s Promise ™ hays are Idaho certified weed free and grown with no pesticides. Nature’s Promise pellets are naturally preserved, have no colorants and also contain no wheat or soy ingredients to cause intestinal upsets, promising pet owners the end of the ‘runny bunny’ problem, and a more satisfying relationship with their pets.

Backed by three generations of one family’s leadership in animal nutrition and a longtime commitment to the good health of every pet, you can trust ZuPreem to provide only healthy, wholesome foods for your pet in the years to come.
